DAA operates out of a modern facility constructed in 2015. Located at the Greater Sudbury Airport (CYSB) the building has plenty of office and classroom space and a 21,500 square foot hangar floor. DAA also has its own Approved Maintenance Organization with 5 full-time Aircraft Maintenance Engineers on site.

VFR Over-the-top Rating
OverviewThe VFR Over-The-Top Rating is designed for private pilots who want the ability to fly in more challenging weather situations. This training is included in the Commercial Pilot Licence program.

Duration: 1 Month (Depends on Student Schedule)
Cost: Approximately $2,500
Advanced StandingApplicants who have partially completed training toward a VFR Over-The-Top Rating at another flight school may be credited advanced standing in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and at the discretion of the Chief Flight Instructor.
Program of StudyThe VFR Over-The-Top Rating consists of a minimum of 15 hours dual instrument flight instruction. It may include up to a maximum of 5 hours of instrument groud time.
There is no ground school requirement for the VFR Over-The-Top Rating. Your instructor will conduct a one-on-one briefing regading instrument flying techniques and human factors consideraions.
The times listed above are Transport Canada minimum times required for completing the course. Completion time is based on student skill, therefore prices may increase as more hours are required.
Payment ScheduleDue to the large costs associated with flight training, Discovery Aviation Academy does not expect students to pay tuition fees upfront or in large installments. Discovery Aviation Academy utilizes the "Pay-Per-Lesson" method, where the student settles their invoice after each lesson.
GraduationUpon completion of the course, students will have their licence endorsed with a VFR Over-The-Top Rating by a Transport Canada Authorized Person.
EnrollmentEnrollment for this program is continuous, meaning students can start flight training toward the Over-The-Top Rating at any time.
